Fractured: Past, Present, Future
Fractured: Past, Present, Future is an ongoing photo series about transracial adoption. Growing up in Cochrane, Wisconsin, my Colombian heritage birthed displacement. Raised alongside a brother who came from similar origins yet different bloodlines, this displacement only festered more. Through in-camera collage, imagery sourced from personal subject matter is constructed and abstracted by combining image projection, sculpture, and printed photography within the lens. The fragmentation of these visuals reflects the detachment that comes with adoptive life. My experience of alienation within whiteness comes in complex layers. Fractured: Past, Present, Future explores connections outside of blood lineage, recontextualizing personal upbringing with new perspectives.
